Apprenticeships and Traineeships
Teachers of Stage 6 students considering undertaking a school based part time traineeship or an apprenticeship may find these sites provide useful information.
A good starting point is the Training and Industry Page on the NSW Department of Education & Training site. It is an overview of apprenticeships and traineeships. It contains links to related organisations and explanations of the differing purposes of those organisations.
School Based Part-Time Traineeship Training Program
The NSW School Based Part-Time Traineeship Training Program has been developed by the NSW Department of Education and Training, under funding from the Commonwealth for New Apprenticeships. This funding allows the school sector to support the expansion of VET in schools, including the delivery of school based part-time traineeships.
School-based part-time traineeships assist young people in achieving three qualifications:
  • A nationally recognised VET qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
  • A Certificate of Proficiency on satisfactory completion of the traineeship
  • The Higher School Certificate (HSC)

The program provides funding to private and community registered training organisations (RTOs) for the delivery of structured training to NSW school students undertaking part-time traineeships in government schools.

For more information about NSW Department of Education & Training part time traineeships, contact VET in Schools Directorate at the following address: hsc.traineeships@det.nsw.edu.au
NCVER Australian Apprenticeships: Research at a Glance
At the NCVER Australian Apprenticeships: Research at a Glance site is a summary of the issues arising from research and from the report Australian Apprentices: Facts, Fiction and Future. There is a lot of clearly organised information explaining apprenticeships and suggesting a number of ways in which the Australian new apprenticeship system might be expanded in the future.
ANTA Student Traineeship and Apprenticeship Gateway
The ANTA Gateway site has information on apprenticeships and employment options, and links to further useful sites. The site myfuture is designed particularly for students to explore employment options.
