General VET
Mary, in response to your question, keep in mind that in NSW, all teachers must meet specific training requirements to deliver accredited industry specific vocational courses in secondary schools. Focus on the teacher training model that can be found on the GoVet site, (under General Vet info, VET teacher training) Hope this helps, Janice.

Hello! I really like this site, and the fact that you can find links to the latest Construction Framework News, stories and highlighted resources on the left side of the screen is great!. It is also possible to join a mailing list or receive their latest newsletter and keep up with the latest updates made on the site, which is just what im doing!!! Congrats go vet!

Construction -- General
Is anyone using the student work placement for assessment? I've asked employers to report on the student's progress, attitude etc but haven't included specific competencies as yet. If you have, can you let me know which competencies you have used and how successful it has been??

Entertainment -- General
Hi! My school will be implementing the Entertainment framework next year and I am keen to network with other teachers/ schools who will likewise be delivering the course for the first time. Yvonne, Newcastle.

Hospitality -- General
I have checked the Work Worlds site out and its great with lots of pictures and walk-through environments. Although the site does take some time to load for those that are using a 56k modem. Those that have broadband will find it faster. http://workworlds.ryde.tafensw.edu.au/

Hi Jane. I used the practical assessment that you suggested and incorporated the unit on workplace hygiene. I think I tried to assess too many elements. Next time I will limit them to about 5 given the size of my class and our short periods. Thanks - Susie

Information Technology -- General
John, be sure to include reference to networking peripherals in the practical scenario assessment. Provide the students with a list of the competencies to be assessed as well as the performance criteria so that they know what is to be covered and the expected performance etc - good luck.

Metal and Engineering -- General
This is my first year of teaching Metals. I've replaced a teacher who has transferred but haven't been able to find copy of the program, any texts or other materials. I'll be starting from scratch and would appreciate any support or advice! Thanks - Bill.

Primary Industries -- General
Hi to all the 2002/1 cohort who just completed the orientation program and thanks to our facilitators, Craig, John and Allan. I thought it might be useful if we take copies of any worksheets or programs to the next stage of our training next term. If we each take 15 copies of each resource we should walk away with a hand set of materials - or we could get them posted to the website and access that way. Any thoughts??

Great idea about the resources, Bob. I think if we contact Jill Buckley we could probably get some stuff added to GoVET. I've got a rough program that I'd be happy to share - I'll speak to Jill.Brian.

Retail -- General
My HSC students last year were happy with the questions in the paper, and felt that they were able to be answered. Last year the students needed to be prepared by: * concentrated lessons on industry glossary of terms. *question format and key word identification *timing of response writting *interpreting questions and identifying the need to develop a plan to write extended responses. *Seminar sessions were delivered to overview each unit of competency, with students involved in questions/note taking. *Students prepared 4 page summaries of three units of competency ( to be swapped with each other). Challenges were found in developing an understanding of the question glossary. Writing skills of the students did not often reflect their ability to be deemed competent when assessing competencies in practicals and theory presentations: project, oral presentations, etc. Next time around I would involve students in presenting summaries of each unit of competency

Does anyone have access to a Retail Skills Centre in there area that they use for course delivery? We have a centre that I'd like to approach to support course delivery but I'd like to here from others first. Jackie.
